Congratulations on your wonderful, new Aussie puppy! These dogs are incredibly smart and super eager to please. Even though your home will be a completely new environment for them, they can't wait to fit in. When caring for your puppy, use an encouraging voice and let your puppy know what is expected of them. When they do what you want, praise them with your tone of voice and lots of petting or a small treat. In no time at all, they will be a member of your family you couldn't imagine not having around.
Here is a short list of supplies you will want to have ready before you bring your new puppy home:
1. Feed - We will start your puppy on Diamond Naturals Small and Medium Breed Puppy Food. You are welcome to switch, but you will want to allow about a week to change over to the new feed. If they are picky, try adding a little wet food to the dry. We will send you home with a gallon bag of this food in order to help with the transition.
2. Food dishes - Stainless steel or very hard plastic is your best choice. The small (2 gallon) auto waterers can be a convenient way of always providing them with fresh water.
3. Crate - Medium...either an open black frame or plastic closed
4. Collar 3/8 in width and 8-12 in long or XS/small harness
5. Thick fabric leash. They can chew through thin ones and retractable leashes fairly quickly
6. Toys for chewing - Kong is an excellent product. They also enjoy nylon bones and knotted ropes. Just keep in mind to buy them for puppy sized mouths. Treats should be given on a fairly limited basis. Animal crackers is a great treat to train with since it is easy on the digestive system.
7. Oatmeal based shampoo/conditioner for baths
